I am posting a short biographical sketch of
Willy FIEDLER’s life in Germany
see also the page “FROM FLEDERMAUS TO POLARIS”
Willy Fiedler was a remarkable German/American aviation engineer, test pilot
and development scientist in Missiles and Rocket propulsion.
He is remembered by many as a cheerful, congenial person who made important contributions in his field of endeavor.
My mother, Johanna Gonsalves, was assigned to work for Mr. Fiedler as a secretary while his regular secretary was away, at LMSC in the late 1970’s. She told me many stories about what a brilliant and friendly guy he was. I was a swimmer and she had my picture near her desk. He told her of his love of swimming & that he wanted to swim in every ocean and sea around the world. At that time, he had already swam in all but two. I always wondered if he completed his goal, to swim in every sea or ocean. When her time as his temp secretary ended, he took her & a couple of scientists who worked for him out to lunch. Although long ago, and for a relatively short time, she still recalls what an honor it was to work for such an intelligent, nice guy.
